Koen Vranckaert joined Newton as Senior Associate in January 2022.
Before joining Newton, Koen Vranckaert was a lawyer for 3.5 years with specializations in commercial litigation, intellectual property and data protection. In June 2020, Koen joined the KU Leuven Centre for IT and IP Law (CiTiP), where he conducted research on the interaction between law and artificial intelligence, in particular on the safety and security of AI systems. He is currently still connected part-time to CiTiP as a legal researcher and speaker at conferences.
At Newton, Koen focuses on all aspects of technical innovation, with focus on regulation of artificial intelligence, intellectual property and data protection.

Koen obtained his Master of Laws from KU Leuven in 2015 and completed an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and ICT Law from KU Leuven (Brussels Campus) in 2016. Koen was certified as a Data Protection Officer in 2018.
In addition to his profession as attorney and researcher, Koen is also a passionate musician. As a hobby, Koen teaches guitar lessons at Full Flavour, a music school based in Kessel-Lo, where he is also a board member and takes part in the daily management. Furthermore, he is a proud family man and cat dad.
